THE DRESSER: SOCKS & UNDERWEAR

how to declutter and organize

Marie Kondo has another method for keeping socks together and folding underwear. Her method for socks and underwear are great, but I had methods of my own, from my mother, for both. My mothers method seemed to work well for me thus far, so I didn’t change those. Marie Kondo’s methods are amazing, but I maintain the saying, “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it,” so I stuck to my own methods here.

The last drawer I had to organize in my dresser was housing my bras, underwear, and socks. I used my mothers method and Kondo’s method together to do what was best for me. Not everyone is the same, so I suggest adjusting as necessary, like I have here.

SOCKS (Mom’s Method)

Step 1: Lay both socks flat on top of one another

Step 2: Fold the socks into one another

UNDERWEAR (Mom’s Method)

Step 1: Lay underwear flat, frontside upwards

Step 2: Fold the crotch upwards

Step 3: Fold the left side in half way, then the left side in halfway

I also used drawer organizers and dividers from Amazon to separate everything up.

I didn’t include the bra folding tips, but if that’s something you’re interested in, all I do is fold my bras in half (all in the same direction), then tuck all the straps into the cup. This may not be the best way for you or for your bra, but it’s worked for me and allowed me to open up space in my drawer.
